Dani Alves: 'I would spend a lot of money on Mbappe, but not on Haaland'

In the on-going debate of Kylian Mbappe vs Erling Haaland, Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has admitted the former is the only player he would break the bank to sign.

Both young stars could be on the move this summer. Mbappe is wanted by Real Madrid but could opt to stay at PSG, while Haaland is also on Real's radar and is being pursued by Manchester City, among others.

They're arguably the two most valuable players on the planet right now, but when asked by Sport for his preference, Alves sided with Mbappe.

"I wouldn't throw everything at Haaland," Alves said. "Honestly, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on him. On Mbappe, yes, but not Haaland.

"I'm playing as a sporting director here, but I'd bet on Mbappe first. He seems more complete in every aspect.

"If you're going to make a huge investment, you have to do it on the best. If it was up to me, I'd bet on Mbappe."

Both Mbappe and Haaland have been linked with moves to Barcelona in the summer, although president Joan Laporta recently admitted that the finances involved in both deals are impossible for Barcelona to deal with.

Despite their financial limits, Alves urged Barcelona to get busy in the transfer market.

“Football today doesn’t give time for the youngsters to cut their teeth. Sport demands the most of you from the start," he said. "However I would not spend a lot of money on certain players.”
