The City boss also admitted to being delighted at seeing Robinho back amongst the goals - the Brazilian striker scored his first goal for the club since the 2-2 draw at Blackburn on 28th December.

"We showed great commitment and we dug in," Hughes said after Sundays win at Eastlands.

"We had to because West Brom are fighting for their lives and we knew they would throw everything they had at us.

"We are also pleased Robinho is back on the goal trail too. It is his first in 2009 and important for him. Hopefully he will go on a run now."
