City pair injured on duty

The City defender had been recalled to the Republic of Ireland squad for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against France after some impressive club performances, but is now back at Carrington due to the setback.

However, the 25-year-old is hopeful of being back with the Ireland camp on Sunday, and could be fit for Wednesday's home qualifier with the Faroe Islands.

"Richard has been receiving treatment from our medical staff since his arrival here," Irish boss Brian Kerr confirmed on the City website.

"However, following a review our medical team felt it would be more beneficial if he was to return to Manchester City for intensive treatment rather than lose out on a day’s treatment by travelling to France.

"Richard will therefore return to Manchester but if he recovers sufficiently over the next few days then he will rejoin the squad in Dublin on Sunday."

- City goalkeeper David James has missed training today with the England squad.

James has a minor knee injury, but Paul Robinson is likely to keep his staring place at Old Trafford against Wales anyway.
