City kids are going nowhere: Boss

A number of Academy products have not only made their first-team debut during City's recent injury crisis, but they have also held their own on the Premiership stage.

Therefore, speaking in the programme for tomorrow's home clash with Tottenham, Keegan reassures City fans that the club have moved to secure their immediate future at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Despite this much-needed surge of young talent though, the City boss has warned that the supply line has now run dry, and he needs some of his injured, more senior players returning to fitness over the Christmas holidays.

"On Monday night, Willo Flood came on along with Bradley," he said. "Nedum Onuoha was on the bench and, of course, we have Stephen Jordan who is doing so well for us. But we are now ‘flat to the boards’ as we cannot produce anything more from within the squad.

"There is not another player coming up from the Academy who is ready yet to help us, so we have to get players fit and back into the squad again.

"It is important we keep the younger players at the club and I can assure fans that is all in hand. Like most clubs we have still got some work to do, to sit down with agents to discuss things and do deals, but it is all in hand."

It appears Keegan is learning from the mistake of letting promising youngsters depart too soon, such as new Ireland international Stephen Elliott, who left for Sunderland in the summer for just £125,000.

Meanwhile, Glenn Whelan has established himself in the Sheffield Wednesday line-up, helping them into play-off contention in Legaue One, after also leaving City last summer.
