CITY HELD BY SHAKERS

7,412 fans crammed into the Bury ground - including a mass of travelling Blues - with the kick-off delayed by 15 minutes.

Geert de Vlieger made his City debut along with Danny Mills as City boss Kevin Keegan selected a different side for each half (except for reserve forward Lee Croft).

Mikkel Bischoff was alongside skipper Sylvain Distin in the centre of defence while Stephen Jordan filled in at left-back with Ben Thatcher absent due to a dead leg.

City dominated the first half as Antoine Sibierski and Robbie Fowler threatened, while Paulo Wanchope had City's best attempt on goal, but his sharp shot on the turn was well saved by the impressive Bury keeper Glynn Garner.

The second half copntinued in the same manner with Lee Croft - the only City man to play in each half before being withdrawn in the 77th minute - impressing on the right flank as he looks to earn a new deal in the final year of his City contract.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was inches away with a header while brother Bradley - City's fifth-choice striker this season unless Keegan can bring in another forward before the start of the season - also went close.
