BULLDOZERS ARRIVE AT MAINE ROAD

The site of City's former Moss Side home is being converted into an 'urban village' with 300 new homes and a range of community facilities.

City moved to Maine Road in 1923 from Hyde Road. The state-of-the-art stadium cost £200,000, a huge sum at the time.

City briefly shared the ground with United after the war while bomb-hit Old Trafford was rebuilt. Then City's 1956 FA Cup win helped fund a huge roof over the Kippax Street banking.

The Main Stand roof was rebuilt in 1982, costing £1m. In the early 1990's the Platt Lane Stand was converted to the all-seater Umbro Stand before the Kippax Street terrace was demolished and replaced by a three-tier stand in the aftermath of the Hillsborough tragedy.
