Bruce fights for Hendo stay

Henderson is set to be handed his Three Lions debut against France on Wednesday night after catching the eye of Fabio Capello.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young players in the country and the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for Henderson.

Bruce accepts he faces a battle to ward off interest in the youngster, but he insists he will not be sold for anything less than £25million if they were to consider offers for the player.

"It is wonderful that Jordan is playing for England - he deserves it," Bruce told the Daily Express. "Make no mistake - he is that good.

"Everything about him is right. He is full of endeavour, young, hungry and the archetypal modern-day footballer - 6ft 2in and yet a marvellous athlete. He is also a level-headed kid, which makes him a pleasure to work with.

"Put all these qualities together and he is courted by all the top clubs.

"It is my problem and, now he is also playing for England, it is going to be so hard to keep him at Sunderland, but I will try. It will be a fight, though.

"Why would you want to sell him for anything less than £25million?"
