Trotters boss Owen Coyle has been keeping an eye on Wright-Phillips' situation all summer and he is ready to ramp up his interest after Lee Chung-yong was ruled out for nine months with a broken leg.
Sunderland are also interested in the former Chelsea player, 29, but Bolton are confident of landing him in a cut-price deal.

City are keen to offload the fringe players in their squad to make room for two new additions before the transfer window closes.
They would rather Wright-Phillips leave on the cheap than on loan in order to get him off their wage bill.

The one stumbling block for Bolton may be the player's wage demands but Coyle hopes that given Wright-Phillips' age he will be willing to take a big pay cut in order to play first-team football.
Coyle revealed his admiration for the winger this week, saying: 'I have too much respect for [City manager] Roberto Mancini and his staff to talk about their player. But Shaun is a hugely talented player.'
