Big Sam ready for the Reds

Pearce has rotated his strikers this season and may even opt for a defensive formation at Old Trafford, meaning Samaras could be dropped.

The Greek striker has only scored 2 league goals this season, both in the 2-0 win over West Ham in September, but Samaras has told Pearce he is eager to make his derby debut.

"It's a local derby and is really important for both sets of supporters to win the game. It'll be exciting and I'm ready for that," he told the City website.

"Anything can happen. We are positive and we go there to play our game without fear, and if it's possible to take something from the game, then we will.

"It would be nice to win. We believe in ourselves and in the team. We are in good shape at this moment and we'll do our best to change the results from the past."

"They are first in the league. They have quality and really good players but we are not afraid of them," Samaras added. "The respect that they have for us we have also for them. We will go there, look them in the eye and take the best result we can."

After a whirlwind start to his City career following a £6m move from Dutch side Heerenveen in January, Samaras has struggled to repeat that form this season.

"I'm still learning the game and I have more to give to this club," said the 21-year-old. "After every training session and game by game, I am feeling better.

"There's no pressure from the manager or my team-mates, they give me advice and support me 100% and I am glad that I am at this club.

"I am not thinking about my goals, I am thinking about the team and how we will take points from the game, that's important. If during a game you score, then ok, but I don't put myself under pressure. I think the goals will come and the most important thing at the moment is to win."
