Bell highest City ace in poll

Last updated : 08 December 2004 By Ben Collins

Bell came in 51st place and was joined by other City luminaries Robbie Fowler (58th), Shaun Wright-Phillips (95th) and Bert Trautmann (97th).

The survey, conducted by The Football Fans Census on behalf of Into Football, asked which player’s autograph fans would most like to own and over 2000 football supporters from more than 120 clubs took part.

Overall, Brazilian legend Pele finished on top of the pile, scoring over twice as many points as his nearest rival, the late, great Bobby Moore – coincidentally a man with whom he shared a greatly respected relationship throughout his career.

England’s nemesis Diego Maradona, who many claim to be the world’s greatest ever player, finished third. Current players are first to be represented by Thierry Henry, who narrowly pipped David Beckham into fourth spot.

George Best, Zinedine Zidane, Alan Shearer, Eric Cantona, and Geoff Hurst complete the top 10, in that order.
