Aguero allays injury fears

Aguero bagged a brace for City, ending a six-game barren run without a goal, but Sky Blues fans were left fearing the worst when he was substituted in the 73rd minute with a back complaint.

Given his stretch of games without finding the net fell either side of a month-long lay off with a knee injury, they no doubt worried that he was set for another spell out, but Aguero has reassured them on social media.

"For the ones asking I'm ok

I stepped out only for precaution

Now let's keep on working for the very important upcoming commitments," he tweeted.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini had explained after the game that Aguero's substitution was not something for fans to worry about, before the 26-year-old Argentinian echoed those sentiments online.

Pellegrini said: ''He felt something in the back

My feeling is it is not too serious and he now has 10 days to recover and train well

I hope he will be fit to face Newcastle.''

Aguero underlined his importance to City's title defence by netting his 20th and 21st strikes of the season in all competitions as they secured a first-ever Premier League win at the Britannia Stadium.

In the absence of Yaya Toure, who has been away at the African Nations Cup, and with Aguero working to recapture his match fitness, City had gone five games without a win before Wednesday night.

With Toure's return imminent and Aguero now on the road back to his best City are gearing up to challenge Chelsea's seven-point lead at the top of the table.

Despite their recent woes for a while it looked like their thumping display in Staffordshire would be enough to eat into that gap, but Jose Mourinho's side dug deep at Stamford Bridge to end a resolute display from Everton and win 1-0 late on.
