Comment: Anelka finds perfect partner

As I apologise for digging up memories of an Elton John's duet with Miss Dee, Anelka should be wrestling with his conscience over the way he has let down Keegan, the City fans and himself.

He will finally get his wish of Champions League football with Fenerbahce but there was no reason why he couldn’t be playing regular European football with City if he threw everything into his performances.

Put into a computer the attributes for the perfect striker and you would get something resembling the French striker. However, as with computers, Anelka has his faults and these have seen him leave some of the biggest clubs in Europe – always under a very dark cloud.

Keegan and the City faithful gave Anelka more slack than they would normally offer a player and this was purely because of his match-winning ability. However, it is no co-incidence that the management of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, Liverpool, City and the French national team all run out of patience with the Gallic goal-getter.

It is also ironic that Anelka will line-up alongside another talented but troublesome striker in Turkey in the tall form of Pierre van Hooijdonk. This being the same man who went on strike because he decided he no longer wanted to play for Nottingham Forest.

It is sad that we have lost one of the most talented players ever to play in a City shirt but we have a good set of players at the club that will pull us through until the right player comes along. And, according to reports, Kiki Musampa should turn out to be an exciting signing.

So, it isn’t all bad news after all…well there is some more…we won’t be treated to seeing Eric Djemba-Djemba in a United shirt again after his move to Aston Villa. What a signing he turned out to be!
