He agreed to give the players Christmas Day off and I think it showed in the first half, when City's defending was shocking. It cost us the game and I think it was purely down to sloppiness.
I've always said Sylvain Distin has no right foot and has an alarming tendency to drift out of position, but over the last 18 months he's managed to play to his qualities, has been one of City's most consistent players and has barely made a mistake - it seems he was saving them all up for yesterday!!
Before the first goal, he went for the ball with the wrong foot, and for the third he needlessly stepped in front of Jason Roberts rather than stay goal-side and couldn't chase back in time. Meanwhile, David Sommeil was caught napping when he left McCulloch free for the second goal.
Richard Dunne might have got megged for Wigan's fourth - their only goal after the break - but you have to give Camara credit for a brilliantly-taken goal.
I think Stu's second mistake was leaving Andy Cole on the bench. Antoine Sibierski may have scored and got man-of-the-match when Cole was suspended against Birmingham.
He may also have put City in front yesterday after just 3 minutes, but I still think Cole should have come straight back in.
When all them chances were flying about in the second half, I'm sure he would have pounced on one or two of them and got us back in the game much sooner than we did. Cole showed what he can do by making it 4-3, but with just 2 minutes left, it was far too late for City to rescue the game.
Pearce said he'd take the rap if giving the players Xmas day off backfired and it did.
Still, it was another great attacking performance, and but for some sloppiness in defence, it would have been another great away win.
Let's hope we can tighten up from the off against Chelsea and maybe we can give them another shock.
