Feature: CITY WIN BRINGS WELCOME ATTENTION

One Spurs fan even emailed me wishing us luck against United. "I have just witnessed the greatest comeback of all time!" he said.

"Also, your fans at the game deserve a massive pat on the back," he added. "Many supporters would turn against their team at 3-0 down (we Spurs fans are probably the worst), but they stuck with the team and saw them through
.....brilliant support."

The BBC commentator (probably Motty since errors and sweeping statements seem to be his speciality) even described it as: "the best comeback of .... well, the last few years." Praise indeed!

Alan Hansen said it was the best match he had ever seen. Again, not sure the best match, but as far as I can recall, certainly the best comeback.

Well, what are the alternatives?

Portugal and United both overturned 3-0 deficits to win 5-3 against North Korea ('66 World Cup) and Spurs (Sept. '01). However, Portugal had a decent striker by the name of Eusebio and the likes of Beckham, Van Nistelrooy and Veron were on the scoresheet for United.

This season, both West Brom and Wolves came out 4-3 winners after losing 3-0 to West Ham and Leicester. West Ham spent more than half the game with 10 men though and Wolves had 20 odd thousand home fans cheering them on against one of the leakiset defences in the league.

Tranmere's similar comeback against Southampton in the 2001 FA Cup and QPR's 4-4 draw at Port Vale from 4-0 down (Jan. '97) take some beating though, but City's win on Wednesday does exactly that.

Consider the obstacles - 1 win in 18, playing awful, away from home, down to 10 men, your best player off injured....but they still secured a famous victory (in normal time too). So City live to fight another day in the FA Cup, and are still in the fight for some silverware.

But for how long? Perhaps the fact that the winners would face a trip to Old Trafford escaped the City players. It seems all that hard work may not have been worth it but as in '96 - at least we have another cup derby to look forward to.

My hope for a winning cup run similar to United's in 1990 may be short lived, but like the Robins inspired win at Forest during that run, Wednesday's win appears to have kept the manager in a job ..... for the time being anyway.
