Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is gunning for another sweep of the domestic cups this season after steering his side into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for a third year out of four.

The fifth round victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this week was Guardiola’s 15th win in the FA Cup, which is at least five more than any other manager in the competition since the start of the 2016/17 campaign when the Spaniard arrived in England.

Guardiola’s City won the FA Cup last season to complete an unprecedented domestic treble after already scooping the Carabao Cup and Premier League title.

City thrashed Watford 6-0 in a one-sided final at Wembley, scoring 26 goals in six games overall. Aside from the Hornets, City also thrashed Rotherham and Burnley 7-0 and 5-0 respectively, with further victories over Newport, Swansea and Brighton.

In 2017/18, despite enjoying historic Premier League dominance, City only reached the fifth round of the FA Cup when they were knocked out by Wigan in a repeat of the 2013 final. Prior to losing to the Latics, Guardiola’s side had won against Burnley and Cardiff.

In 2016/17, Guardiola’s first in England, City got as far as the FA Cup semi-finals. They beat West Ham, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield (after a replay), and Middlesbrough, only conceding once and scoring 15, before falling to Arsenal at the penultimate hurdle.

So far in 2019/20, Guardiola has enjoyed wins over Port Vale and Fulham, prior to taking on Sheffield Wednesday this week.
