Manchester City have officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager today, following the decision of Pep Guardiola to invoke a break clause in his contract a year early.

The 46-year-old Italian tactician has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, returning to a club he knows well from his previous stints as the Elite Development Squad manager and as part of Guardiola's senior coaching staff.

Maresca was out of work after his tempestuous 19-month tenure at Stamford Bridge concluded on January 1, leaving Chelsea by mutual consent after a run of just one win across his final nine matches in charge.

His return to City represents a natural next step for both him and the 10-time Premier League champions.

The incoming coach will immediately task himself with assessing the current senior squad while coordinating with the recruitment department on a sequence of major summer transfer targets.
