But that hasn't been enough to keep Thaksin Shinawatra happy, with the City owner intent on getting rid of Sven and bringing in another high-profile coach such as Luiz Felipe Scolari, Frank Rijkaard or perhaps even Jose Mourinho.
Eriksson is making plans for his future having had talks with Benfica officials in Manchester this week with a view to having a 3rd spell in charge of the Portuguese giants.
There has been talk of a Thaksin U-turn over Sven, with Scolari seemingly reluctant to leave his post as Portugal coach, so he may stay after all.
