The England U21 international has been one of City's most consistent performers during their promising start to the campaign. But, after a crop of new midfielders arrived, he knows the heat is on to stay in the starting line-up.

"If I am playing well I feel as though I can hold down the right-sided slot where I have been for the last few games," Wright-Phillips said

The arrival of Steve McManaman, in particular, has caused most concern but Shaun is confident he will not be left behind.

"More of us are competing for the same positions, but I still believe I can learn from them.

"Every player teaches someone something different and if I can pick a few things up from them all, I won't go far wrong."
