Wilfried Bony still fighting to prove himself to Manchester City fans

The £25million January signing has had a slow start to his City career and fans voiced their frustration as he spurned a host of chances in Saturday's defeat of Norwich.

Bony is now getting a prolonged run in the team for the first time due to injury to star striker Sergio Aguero

A combination of international commitments, injuries and illness - malaria - had previously hampered his attempts to establish himself.

The 26-year-old is determined to make the most of his opportunity and will have his eyes on goal in Tuesday's Champions League clash at Sevilla.

The Ivory Coast international said: "I'm trying everything to score goals but they did not go in for me on Saturday

I hope soon they will

It would be great to get one in the Champions League.

"I thought I had a goal in the last game against Sevilla but it looks like maybe not - that was an own goal - so perhaps I can get one in this game instead.

"I am here to score goals

I just want to do my job, do my best in training and score when get my chance in the match

A striker is happy when he scores, especially when the team wins - but the most important thing is to win."

City go into the game at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium knowing that a victory could secure their place in the last 16, if Juventus also win their game at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Qualifying for the knockout stages with two games to spare would be a fine achievement by the club, given some of their past struggles in the competition, but Bony knows there is still much work to do.

He said: "The Champions League was one of the big reasons why I joined here.

"But it's going to be tough in Seville

You saw what a good team they were over here

So we have to prepare for it to be the same."

City were outplayed for long spells by Sevilla, the current Europa League title-holders, at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago, but they hit back and won 2-1 with a last-gasp goal from Kevin De Bruyne.

With David Silva having failed to overcome an ankle injury in time to feature, Aguero and Samir Nasri still out and Kelechi Iheanacho ineligible, City's attacking formation looks straightforward

Bony seems set to play as a lone centre forward with De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and former Sevilla winger Jesus Navas behind him.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is confident Bony will come good.

The Chilean said: "Unfortunately at this moment, as happens with a lot of strikers, he's not scoring the number of goals that he can.

"He has had some criticism about his last games and maybe he missed some chances but I am sure that in the future he will return to his normal performance

He is a very good player."
