Who are the players who can fire their clubs to Premier League glory

With the exception of Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure in 2013-14, all have been strikers.

Here we assess the current crop leading the line for the top seven as it stands.

MANCHESTER CITY

Sergio Aguero has proven during his five seasons in English football he is able to consistently deliver, passing the 20-mark on three occasions and scoring 17 in another

He already has five in six league appearances this season and in Pep Guardiola's attacking side seems certain to break 20 again.

ARSENAL

Only once in the period covered has an Arsenal player reached the 20-goal mark and even when Robin van Persie scored 30 in 2011-12 the Gunners still finished fourth

Olivier Giroud has never managed better than 16 and Alexis Sanchez is not an out-and-out striker but has managed 16 and 13 in two seasons

Theo Walcott is current top scorer with five in eight this season but you would not back him to reach 20 and, once again, it seems Arsenal will be relying on a cumulative effort.

TOTTENHAM

Harry Kane is a genuine 20-a-season man having done so in the last two campaigns and the way manager Mauricio Pochettino sets up his side he should produce similar results again this time around

Heung-Min Son has begun the season well but is unlikely to be as prolific as his team-mate.

LIVERPOOL

Daniel Sturridge is arguably Liverpool's best finisher but he has yet to score a league goal this season and, more worrying for him, he appears to be the one struggling most to adjust to Jurgen Klopp's style and has regularly been overlooked in favour of Roberto Firmino, a midfielder-turned-striker

Sturridge could score 20 goals in a campaign but probably will not unless something clicks and he gets a long run in the side.

CHELSEA

Diego Costa looks to have rediscovered the form of his first season (2014-15) when he hit 20 and currently leads the Premier League's top scorers

Providing he can get past what appears to be a difference of opinion with manager Antonio Conte he is already on track to bounce back from a disappointing spell last season.

EVERTON

Everton have not had a player score 20 goals in a season since Gary Lineker in 1985-86 when they finished second

In Romelu Lukaku they have a striker who can match that feat

The Belgium international is a streaky player and five goals in his six matches represent a good start but much may depend on the ammunition provided by his team-mates.

MANCHESTER UNITED

The enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored goals at every club he has been at and began well with four goals in his first four league matches

However, whether he will be able to sustain the pace at a higher intensity and physicality in the Premier League remains to be seen

Anthony Martial (aged 20) and Marcus Rashford (18) have the raw talent but have yet to deliver over a sustained period

One player who has done so on a regular basis is Wayne Rooney but with his place in the side not guaranteed it seems unlikely he will be the man to come up with 20-plus goals.
