Victor Moses makes a 25m exodus from Crystal Palace to Wigan

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was forced to fend off late interest from West Ham and Fulham to sign the much-coveted youngster.

Money talks: Moses

The 19-year-old Crystal Palace forward last night signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the DW Stadium that will earn him around £3m.

He will earn about six times the £3,000-a-week salary he was on at Selhurst Park.

Martinez moved quickly to head off interest from Fulham and West Ham yesterday and outbid Championship sides Newcastle and West Bromwich.

Moses' switch to Wigan ends one of the most protracted moves of the transfer window.

Sportsmail revealed Manchester City's interest last month and the Eastlands side were at one point front-runners to bag the highly-rated forward.

But City refused to meet Palace's valuation and manager Neil Warnock said on Saturday: 'Manchester City should have bought him ages ago instead of messing about.'

Wigan are looking into a loan deal for Sevilla striker Arouna Kone and have been offered Paraguay midfielder Christian Riveros of Cruz Azul.
