Update on Manchester City's Proposed Move for Leicester City Star Caglar Soyuncu

Manchester City are not interested in signing Caglar Soyuncu, despite rumours in Turkey that the club had made a bid for the Leicester City defender.

Leicester boast one of the meanest back fours in the league, with only Liverpool conceding fewer than the 19 goals they have shipped this season.

The sound central defensive partnership of Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans has been integral to the eight clean sheets the Foxes have kept in the Premier League.

City meanwhile have struggled at the back, conceding 24 goals in 21 matches. This is in part due to their failure to replace Vincent Kompany over the summer following his retirement, in addition to the long term injury to Aymeric Laporte, who has been absent from first team action since August.

It is therefore no surprise that Pep Guardiola has his eye on bolstering his defensive options and, according to reports in Turkish news outlet TakvimManchester City have made an offer of £38.4m for the 23-year-old.

The report states that Leicester responded by saying that they value Soyuncu at £60m.

However, according to Martin Blackburn, northern football writer for the Sun, despite City's defensive issues, the club have no interest in signing the Leicester City centre back, and have definitely not made a bid for the Turkish international.

The alleged lack of interest could be because Laporte is reported to be a matter of weeks away from a first team comeback, with the French central defender rumoured to be targeting a return against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Soyuncu has three and a half years remaining on his Leicester City deal, with the Foxes reportedly keen to tie him down to a new, long-term contract following the rumoured links to Manchester City.

The sometimes eccentric defender, famed for attempting the occasional Cruyff turn in his own penalty area, broke into the Leicester first team this season after the Foxes sold first choice centre back Harry Maguire to Manchester United.

Leicester were rumoured to be eying up a replacement for Maguire over the summer, but after transfers failed to materialise, Soyuncu was handed a starting berth, and has not looked back since.
