The Manchester City Lineup That Should Start Against Arsenal on Wednesday

Well boys and girls, it's almost here. Manchester City play host to Arsenal on Wednesday night as the Premier League finally restarts.

With the Premier League title almost definitely wrapped up by Liverpool, City will be aiming to merely finish the season on a high, while their visitors to the Etihad Stadium - Arsenal - are have an outside chance of

City's squad depth will be more present than ever with a clean bill of health after Leroy Sane's return to training. With the Premier League's new temporary rule on nine substitutes being allowed on the bench, Pep Guardiola will have to choose 20 players from his 25-man Premier League squad. Tricky decisions, eh? Let's see who Pep will favour come Wednesday night.

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Ederson and Kyle Walker have been mainstays of City's defence

Ederson (GK) - Arguably the only nailed-on starter for this one. The Brazilian international has featured in all but three of City's league games this season and will be the man to marshal their defence this midweek too.

Kyle Walker (RB) - Walker could get the nod over Joao Cancelo for the return of the Premier League purely based on his experience in high pressure Premier League games. Walker has been one of the best full-backs in the league this term.

Nicolás Otamendi (CB) - The centre back pairing is one of Pep's main predicaments but with Otamendi starting four out of the last five league games before the enforced break, he looks favourite to keep his spot.

Aymeric Laporte (CB) - While there is a strong case for all four centre backs, Laporte has shaken off his hamstring injury during the lockdown and will look to rekindle his impressive partnership with Otamendi. Laporte has only played seven games this season but he assisted City to a win six times.

Benjamin Mendy (LB) - Mendy looks likely to nick the left-back spot off of Oleksandr Zinchenko on Wednesday. While both have played similar amount of games, Mendy is more capable of whipping the ball in the box and creating big chances.

Midfielders

Rodri could start in Manchester City's first game back.

Rodri (CM) - Rodri's ability to sit in, break up play and spread the ball is perhaps unrivalled in the Premier League, so he should start this one.

Kevin De Bruyne (RCM) - The Belgian is, quite simply, City's best player. His influence in the midfield has been crucial this season, as he's popped up with eight goals and 16 assists.

İlkay Gündoğan (LCM) - Gündoğan is more likely to start than Silva or Foden this time out as a mechanism to stop Arsenal's attacking threats in midfield

Forwards

Aguero v Arsenal

Bernardo Silva (RW) - Silva was dropped back into midfield last time out in the Manchester derby but this time, he should be pushed further forward and into his preferred position. A possible match-up against Hector Bellerin will be an exciting one to keep an eye on throughout.

Sergio Aguero (ST) - It's a no-brainer to have Aguero leading the line against the Gunners as his record speaks for itself. 11 goals in the last 15 games against Arsenal, along with 16 goals this season alone. It would just be silly to leave the little Argentine on the bench.

Raheem Sterling (LW) - While you can have many different forward lineups with Gabriel Jesus, Sane and Riyad Mahrez all fit, you can expect Sterling to start ahead of them. His instant change of pace and game changing ability will have the Arsenal defence working hard all game.
