Rodrygo admits he was 'nervous' before brace against Man City

Rodrygo has admitted that he was 'a little nervous' before he came on to bag a game-saving brace for Real Madrid in their Champions League semi-final second leg win over Manchester City.

Real seemed to be heading out after Riyad Mahrez's second-half strike put City 5-3 up on aggregate. However, Rodrygo somehow scored twice in the 90th and 92nd minutes to send the match to extra time.

In the additional period, Karim Benzema then won and converted a penalty to book Real's place in the final against Liverpool in Paris at the end of the month.

Speaking at full-time, Rodrygo revealed that he was feeling tense when Ancelotti told him he was coming on in the second half of normal.

"I was a little nervous but I was concentrating on the bench to spot weaknesses in their defense and scored two goals," he admitted. "It's always very hard to watch the games from the bench."

The Brazilian went onto explain how Real's proud heritage had help inspire another famous European comeback – this latest turnaround followed similar heroics against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in previous rounds.

"Ancelotti told me to go and score a goal. We were DEAD, but this shirt teaches us to fight till the last second."
