In an interview with AS, the England star noted how frustrated he is that his Man City team - who won a domestic treble last term - did not provide the winners of either the Ballon d’Or or PFA Player of the Year awards over the last year.
Despite having never won a Player of the Year award himself, Sterling did win Liverpool's club Young Player of the Year award twice, as well as Tuttosport's coveted Golden Boy award in 2014.
Last season, aged 24, he won the PFA Young Player of the Year for his performances in a title-winning league campaign for Pep Guardiola's City, but Sterling feels City should be getting more recognition: "I
Sterling goes on to discuss perceived unequal treatment of players at different clubs. He clearly feels Manchester City' players are often overlooked for individual awards, something that he goes on to provide compelling evidence of.
"
"It’s something everyone can see. It is impossible to win the league for four or five times and none of the players were Player of the Year. Every team which wins the league has a player who wins Player of the Year, for sure.
"So, this year Liverpool win the league and a Liverpool player will win the Player of the Year for sure. We win the league for five times and we were not treated with the same respect."
Sterling still endures a sticky relationship with Liverpool, the club he left in 2015 in favour of City, and he became the most expensive English player ever at the time.
It remains to be seen whether City's players win any individual awards at the end of this campaign - De Bruyne's scintillating league form makes him the most likely - but the task may be more difficult this time around given they find themselves 22 points behind the leade
