Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan & John Stones left out of Man City pre-season US tour squad

Manchester City have jetted off for their pre-season tour of the United States without Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones, who are expected to start their preparations for the new campaign with City's Under-23s instead.

Pep Guardiola has named a 26-man squad to travel to the US for friendlies against Club America and Bayern Munich, featuring the majority of his first-team stars and plenty of youngsters to make up the numbers.

However, the US' entry requirements have prevented Foden, Gundogan and Stones from making the flight, with the trio not permitted to enter the country.

Chelsea found themselves in a similar situation earlier this month, confirming that N'Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek's vaccination status was behind their omission from the Blues' travelling squad to the US. City have declined to reveal a reason for the trio's failure to make the trip.

Foden, Gundogan and Stones will instead work with the Under-23s and they will hope to be joined by centre-back Aymeric Laporte, who has also been left out of the squad to focus on recovering from an injury.

A notable inclusion in Guardiola's squad is Ukrainian utility man Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has made the flight to the US despite talks in the background over a move to Arsenal.

90min understands an agreement to send Zinchenko to the Emirates Stadium is close, with the 25-year-old keen to make the move.
