Pep Guardiola warns Phil Foden & Jack Grealish about future conduct after Newcastle snub

Pep Guardiola has warned Phil Foden and Jack Grealish about their future conduct, after the duo were dropped to the bench for Man City's 4-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday.

The pair were pictured on a night out in the aftermath of their side's 7-0 victory at home to Leeds United on Tuesday, behaviour that Guardiola clearly did not approve of.

The Daily Mail note that the pair arrived at training on Wednesday looking a little worse for wear, and some staff members - Guardiola included - were seriously unimpressed.

Both Foden and Grealish were named on the bench against the Magpies with most assuming that the pair had been rotated. However, Guardiola clarified their omission in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Not rotation, no. I decided this team because they deserved to play — these guys and not the other ones," he explained.

"At Christmas time I pay a lot of attention to behaviour on and off the pitch. And when (behaviour) off the pitch is not proper, they are not going to play.

"So we have to be focused all the time because of distractions at Christmas time and everything that happens - you still have to be focused."

Covid-19 cases are currently skyrocketing across the Premier League leading to a spate of postponements. Only half of the scheduled fixtures were able to go ahead last weekend and further cancellations are expected over the festive period.

Premier League clubs discussed the possibility of halting the season temporarily on Monday but, for the time being, a majority favour proceeding as planned. There were some calls for rearranging a round of fixtures for later in the campaign, but there is currently no support for a complete break in fixtures.

90min understands that clubs are eager to avoid games being played behind closed doors again. This has had a disastrous effect on their finances over the past two campaigns and they are reluctant to refund season tickets for a second time.
