Pep Guardiola 'Really Concerned' for Eric Garcia After Ederson Collision

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits he is 'really concerned' for Eric Garcia, after the defender was taken to hospital following a collision during City's 3-0 victory over Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

Garcia was wiped out by teammate Ederson as the City goalkeeper dashed from his goal line to clear the ball during the latter stages of the game.

The match was delayed for several minutes as the 19-year-old received treatment on the pitch, before being stretchered off in a neck brace and taken to hospital.

“We are really concerned,” Guardiola told BBC Sport.  “He responded quite well but we have to wait. He is conscious which is a good sign. I think he is going to be tested tonight because a kick in the head is always so dangerous.

"The doctor told me he was conscious. I'm pretty sure we're going to do absolutely everything to be sure that everything is fine and well."

The injury to Garcia dampened an otherwise successful return to Premier League action for Guardiola's side, who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners thanks in part to a characteristically impressive Kevin De Bruyne performance, and partly thanks to a David Luiz horror show.

The Arsenal centre back entered the fray with the scores all square, before completely misreading De Bruyne's pass for Sterling's opener and then conceding a penalty and seeing red for a foul on Riyad Mahrez.

Garcia was a surprise inclusion from Guardiola

De Bruyne scored from the spot, before substitute Phil Foden applied the finishing touches to a flowing City move in stoppage time to wrap up the victory.

Garcia was one of a number of players to be forced off injured, with Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari both limping off in the first half for Arsenal.

The inclusion of the young defender raised a few eyebrows at kick off; despite having a fully fit squad to chose from, Guardiola opted to hand Garcia only his third Premier League start of the season.

However, the centre back put in a mature, composed display alongside Aymeric Laporte, as the Gunners failed to muster a shot on target.
