Pep Guardiola Intent on Seeing Out Current Man City Deal - But Future Remains Unknown

Pep Guardiola intends to see out his current Manchester City contract, which expires in 2021, but is yet to decide whether he will be extending his deal.

City have stuttered in the Premier League this season, removing any chance of the club securing its third consecutive title. They are currently 14 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool, with the Reds also having a game in hand to potentially increase their lead.

The Citizens' shaky form had led to speculation that Guardiola may depart the club at the end of the season, but a report from the Telegraph strongly refutes these claims. According to sources close to the former Barcelona boss, there is 'no chance' of the 48-year-old leaving before the expiration of his current contract.

Despite the Reds' unassailable lead in the Premier League, Guardiola is understood to be aiming to win the other trophies available to his side this season and even feels 'under pressure' to do so.

The Spaniard is said to be particularly keen on winning the Champions League - a feat no previous City manager has achieved - but the club are also aiming to go all the way in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

One of the principal reasons for City's troublesome league form has been the absence of Aymeric Laporte. The Frenchman is a key component in the Sky Blues' slick style of play, with his composure on the ball and precise passing ability fundamental to helping Guardiola's side build out from the back.

But he's been absent late August after picking up a serious knee injury against Brighton, though he is closing on a return over the next few weeks.

Guardiola remains confident in his side's abilities, but he remains undecided about whether or not he will look to extend his deal at the Etihad. An overhaul of the playing squad is expected in the summer, so the Spaniard may look to see how his new-look side performs before making a long term decision.
