Manchester United 'Confident' of Landing Manchester City Youth Star Charlie McNeil

Manchester United are said to be confident of snatching youth star Charlie McNeil from rivals Manchester City, with the youngster recently rejecting a professional contract at the Etihad Stadium.

A couple of papers have labelled the teenager as a '600 goal academy striker', so understandably there's a fair amount of buzz regarding his future.

McNeil does not turn 17 until September, so the two clubs would need to agree a fee or leave the financial aspect of the move to be ruled on by a tribunal.

As reported by the Mail, McNeil is being eyed by United - the side he supported as a child - and it is reported that a fee could reach the seven-figure mark due to his performances in academy teams and his international experience. He has played for England Under-16s four times, scoring once.

The 16-year-old previously posted on Instagram that he would be leaving City - with the club happy to stand aside and let him choose his next move - and in June reports emerged stating he had chosen to join Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

A post from his account reads: "A massive thank you to Man City for everything over the past six years.

Mason Greenwood has thrived under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tutelage

"It's been such a pleasure to play with some amazing players and I've made some amazing friends too. Thanks to all the staff and players for helping me develop as a player and also as a person. I wish everyone the very best."

He has apparently found opportunities in City's Under-18s side limited and wants a new challenge elsewhere, with United one mooted destination.

McNeil did spend his early years with the Red Devils' junior sides before making the trip across town to City. However, United could face competition from both Wolves and Leeds United, who are said to be tracking the striker.
