Manchester City unveil Sergio Aguero statue on anniversary of title-winning strike

Manchester City have unveiled a statue of club legend Sergio Aguero on the tenth anniversary of his famous title-winning strike against Queens Park Rangers.

Aguero left City last summer as their all-time record goalscorer having struck 260 times during his decade in Manchester, writing his name into the club's and the Premier League's record books.

His most famous and significant goal came on 13 May, 2012, as his last-ditch winner against QPR delivered the Citizen's maiden Premier League crown and prompted a now legendary piece of commentary from Martin Tyler: "AGUEROOOOOOOOOO"

To mark the tenth anniversary of the goal and honour a club legend, Man City have unveiled a statue of the striker outside the Etihad Stadium. Constructed using thousands of welded pieces of galvanised steel, the statue has immortalised Aguero's shirt-waving celebration

Speaking upon the unveiling, Aguero said: "Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself ten years ago is very moving.

"In those ten years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world.

"I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special."

Sculptor Scott, added: "It has been an honour to work on a project that means so much to Manchester City fans around the world in celebration of such an important player in the life of this football club.

"I was under no illusions about how important this was to the Club, to the fans, to Sergio himself and I hope that this statue brings joy and happiness to all who see it."

Aguero's statue will stand alongside those of David Silva and Vincent Kompany, which have already been erected outside the stadium.
