Manchester City Star Sergio Aguero Linked With Return to Former Club Independiente

It's beginning to feel like the end of an era at Manchester City. After legend Yaya Toure departed in 2018, it became apparent that the days were numbered for plenty of the stars who had ushered in this new and exciting period for the Premier League champions.

And it seems that Sergio Aguero's name can also be added to that list, as the prolific striker - who has been at the forefront of the Cityzens' rise to glory - looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium in the not-too-distant future.

The 31-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, but as 90min previously revealed, the Sky Blues will not stand in his way should he decide to leave Manchester prior to that date, as a token of gratitude for his sterling efforts over the years.

And The Mirror reports that the club's leading goalscorer may well be set for a return to Argentina, as his former club Independiente have launched 'Operation Aguero,' in a bid to lure him back to his homeland.

Aguero has previously expressed his desire to return to the place where his career began, and Independiente coach Lucas Pusineri, who happens to be an ex-teammate of the Man City star, is desperate to make that fairytale a reality.

Speaking about a possible move for Aguero, Pusineri claimed they are 'saving' the number ten shirt for the Argentina international, and 'the steps are being taken' to ensure that the pair join forces once again in the future.

“We are saving him [Aguero] the No.10 shirt," the coach explained.

“I have a beautiful friendship with Kun and hopefully I can be his coach tomorrow. Hopefully I can meet him again at the club.

“He must be encouraged by a good project that will surround him well. I am excited to see him at Independiente again.

“I was once his teammate and now I want to be his coach. The steps are being taken and hopefully he can return with good effect and give joy to the fans of the reds.”

Aguero has often admitted that he wants to end his career back in Argentina... could the Man City faithful be waving goodbye to another club legend this summer?
