Manchester City in 'Advanced Talks' Over Wage Deferrals Amid Coronavirus Crisis

The Manchester City squad are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to defer their salaries as the Citizens deal with the fallout from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The impact of the shutdown of football across Europe has left clubs considering their short-term financial futures, while their have been calls for players to take pay cuts to help other staff.

As reported by the Daily Mail, City are in 'advanced talks' with their stars over deferring salaries to help ensure that the club operate within their means.

It is reported that squad are very much open to the idea of deferring their wages during the crisis Manager Pep Guardiola and a number of City executives have already agreed to take a salary cut.

The players would want guarantees, however, that should their wages be deferred, that the club would not spend big money on players when the transfer window opens.

City have already promised not to put their non-playing staff on furlough, with the club willing to eat the potential losses that will be incurred as a result of keeping this staff on during the crisis.

It is still currently unknown whether when, or even if, the Premier League season will restart. The uncertainty of a potential restart date - and already the fact that clubs are losing out on revenue streams, means that the future of some teams has been put in doubt.

The Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, has stated that the league and the clubs could potentially lose a £1bn due to the crisis.
