Man City's Greatest All-Time Premier League XI - But Only Picking One Player From Each Country

For older Manchester City fans, the last ten years must feel like a fever dream.

With all this success over the last decade, a fair few cult heroes and legends have been developed at the club. It is, however, important not to forget those who played for the club before their takeover, some of whom are still fondly remembered.

With this in mind, here is the greatest Manchester City Premier League XI - with the catch being that only one player can be picked from each country.

Ederson (GK)

Ederson

One of the best-shot stoppers around, Ederson's quick distribution and confidence with the ball at his feet has made him an indispensable part of Pep Guardiola's side, conceding just 101 times in 131 total appearances since joining City in 2017.

A calm, reliable presence in the City goal following the shambles that was Claudio Bravo - who is now second choice in Eastlands - Ederson's time with the Citizens has coincided with the greatest period in the club's history, helping them collect eight trophies in just three seasons.

Kyle Walker (RB)

UEFA Champions League"Real Madrid v Manchester City FC"

For the right back position, it was a difficult choice between Kyle Walker and Micah Richards. It was a choice between a great, but not exactly world-class talent and a cult-hero who evokes nostalgia for a time when City were a boring, mid-table side.

In the end, the more talented player won out. Dependable but not exceptional, Walker has been an important part of Pep Guardiola's trophy-laden era at Manchester City. He also holds the distinction of being the only goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Atalanta in the Champions League, successfully keeping their attackers at bay after he had to replace Bravo for the final nine minutes of the game.

Richard Dunne (CB)

Dimitar Berbatov,Richard Dunne

One of football's original hard men, Dunne makes this list for nostalgic reasons, though his place here isn't unwarranted. A rock in defence, Dunne was so crucial for City during the 2000s that he was voted their player of the year for four seasons in a row.

His departure from the club in 2009 was a consequence of the Citizens' big ambitions and his time at City is now a distant memory, though he will live long in the thoughts of City fans who had the pleasure of witnessing him play.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

Vincent Kompany

Having joined the club prior to their big takeover in 2008, Kompany is a symbol of the club's ascendance from an unremarkable mid-table side to one of Europe's elite clubs, transforming himself into one of the world's best defenders as City began to fill their trophy cabinet.

Though injury problems marred his final few seasons at the Etihad, Kompany's defensive contributions, alongside his warm personality, have earned him a place in City folklore.

Aleksandar Kolarov (LB)

Aleksandar Kolarov

More of a cult hero than a legend, Kolarov endeared himself to City fans with his powerful, accurate free-kicks and his dry humour, as exemplified by his renditions of well-known Christmas songs.

The Serbian made nearly 250 appearances for the Citizens over seven seasons, winning seven trophies, including City's first-ever Premier League title.

Bernardo Silva (RM)

Bernardo Silva

A pacy winger known for accurate passing and goalscoring ability, Bernardo Silva has developed into one of the Premier League's best players under Guardiola.

He's made nearly 150 appearances for the club in just under three seasons, scoring 29 times - including a hat-trick against Watford earlier this season.

Yaya Toure (CM)

Yaya Toure

Immortalised through a catchy chant and highlight videos of his sensational 2013/14 season, Toure is a player still talked about around the Etihad concourse, having made a lasting impression on City fans with his pace, tackling and goalscoring ability over the course of his eight seasons at the club.

Toure made over 300 appearances for the Citizens, scoring 79 goals, with 24 of those coming in the 2013/14. He is also notable for having expressed sadness that the club failed to wish him happy birthday one year, leading Twitter users to flood his mentions on his subsequent birthdays to make sure it never happens again.

David Silva (CM)

David Silva

One of the best midfielders to have ever graced the Premier League, Silva has been with City through thick and thin and it'll be a sad day when he plays his last game for them at the end of the season.

It's been a trophy-laden decade for the Spanish midfielder, who has played over 400 games for the club since his arrival from Valencia in 2010, making him City's 11th all-time appearance maker, higher than any player in the post-takeover era.

Leroy Sane (LM)

Leroy Sane,Gabriel Jesus

Though he's been out for the majority of 2019/20 and his days at City appear to be numbered, Sane has been an important cog in Guardiola's side since arriving from Schalke in 2016, scoring 39 times and making 45 assists in 134 games, helping the Citizens to win two consecutive titles.

With his insane pace and dribbling ability missing from the City side this season, it's probably no coincidence that they've underwhelmed in the league this season.

Sergio Aguero (ST)

Sergio Aguero,Harry Maguire

Since his arrival from Atletico Madrid all the way back in 2011, Aguero has scored over 250 goals in 368 appearances, making him City's all-time top scorer by 77 goals, a record that is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.

Perhaps best known for scoring the winning goal in the final game of the 2011/12 season that saw the Citizens claim their first ever Premier League title, Aguero's number ten shirt is one that warrants retiring once he leaves the club.

Edin Dzeko (ST)

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN CITY-NEWCASTLE

This last spot was between Dzeko, an underrated, somewhat forgotten striker at City, and Mario Balotelli, a cult hero known for his unpredictable personality and occasional flashes of brilliance.

In the end, Dzeko won out, by virtue of having scored more goals in his spell at City, netting on 72 occasions over the course of four-and-a-half seasons at the Etihad, earning a reputation of striking from the bench as he helped the Citizens to two league titles.
