John Stones & David Silva Return From Injury as Man City Also Receive Aymeric Laporte Boost

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte will return to training within the next 10 days.

The France international has been on the sidelines since August due to a serious knee injury, something which has been a key factor the reigning Premier League champions' poor form this season.

Manchester City are facing the impossible task of overturning a 14-point gap behind Liverpool to reclaim the trophy, but Guardiola has confirmed that his side will at least be boosted by Laporte's return in early January.

Aymeric Laporte

"He’s getting better. He’s training alone but already on the pitch. He's in the last part of his recovery," Guardiola said, quoted by The Mirror. "In one week, 10 days, he can start to train with us.

"I miss all the players who are injured, I like to have all the squad available and training with us."

Laporte's return from injury won't come in time for their match against Everton on New Year's Day, but both John Stones and David Silva will be available once again ahead of the Toffees' trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Both players have been out of action since the Manchester derby at the start of December, but Guardiola confirmed Stones and Silva would be available for selection once again after almost a month on the sidelines.

Manchester City will be the favourites to beat Everton on New Year's Day, but with their visitors currently riding the wave of a new manager bounce, Guardiola warned that Carlo Ancelotti's sides "always beat" his own.

"[Everton] have struggled for points but the quality is there," he added. "They have a new manager who has incredible experience. He is one of the smartest guys, he is always able to make them work to get good results.

"It will be a difficult test for us. I know Carlo quite well, we played a few times against him. His teams always beat our teams."
