Joao Cancelo has tipped Manchester City teammate Phil Foden to become 'one of the best players in the world' following the England star's dazzling performance in the Citizens' 5-1 destruction of Club Brugge on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old helped the full-back open the scoring on the night, supplying the pass for his colleague to beat the keeper and kick off a successful evening for the Premier League champions.
Speaking about Foden's role in his goal, Cancelo admitted he wasn't surprised by the youngster's incredible assist, describing him as 'the best young player' he's ever played with while tipping him to become 'one of the best in the world.'
“It was a great pass from Phil,” said Cancelo.
“He is a fantastic player and I am not surprised by this pass. He is the best young player I have ever played with. He has a great talent, a lot of skills.
“I am sure he will give Manchester City plenty of happy times in the future and, if he keeps developing like this, he will be one of the best players in the world.”
Foden has grown to become one of the most important players in the Man City side, developing at an incredible rate under the tutelage of coach Pep Guardiola. He was voted as the Premier League's Young Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign, helping the Citizens reclaim the title from Liverpool.
He did not feature too heavily for England during their run to the Euro 2020 final and injury ruled him out of the eventual penalty shootout defeat to Italy at Wembley.
However, Foden has returned to star for Man City and won the joint-Man of the Match award with Mohamed Salah in the 2-2 draw with the Reds in October.
