Gabriel Jesus Insists Sharing a Club With Sergio Aguero Has Made Him a Better Strikes

Gabriel Jesus has admitted he's hoping to emulate the goalscoring exploits of Sergio Aguero at Manchester City.

The Argentine sits at the top of the Sky Blues' all-time scoring charts, having netted on 245 occasions for the English club. That tally leaves Aguero 187 ahead of his Brazilian counterpart, who joined City five and a half years after he did.

Nevertheless, it was Jesus' goals that secured a 2-1 victory for Pep Guardiola's side against Everton on New Year's Day, the 21-year-old hitting a double to put his team 13 points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United.

Discussing his relationship with Aguero, the youngster explained (as quoted by Goal): "I have to try to score every time, because we have Sergio, of course.

"Sergio scores every game, so I have to learn from him. When I go on the pitch I have to score.

It’s always good to start the year with a victory. The team played very well, and I’m very happy to score, but the guys played so well today."

Jesus' brace means he has now struck seven goals in his five Premier League appearances versus the Toffees, though he doesn't believe there are any special reasons for that record.

He continued: "That I keep scoring against Everton, I think it's a coincidence! I am happy with the victory, the team played so well. We kept the ball, passed and created chances. It was nervous at the end because they have a lot of good players. We had to fight and be careful at the end."

58 goals in 125 games for City is no mean feat for a player of his age, and Guardiola has claimed Jesus is a worthy replacement for Aguero, with the latter entering the final 18 months of his career at Eastlands.

Jesus is currently on eight Premier League goals for the campaign, while Aguero has struck ten times for the reigning champions.
