Eric García in Improved Manchester City Contract Talks Amid Barcelona Interest

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is holding talks with the club over an improved contract, amid interest from Catalan giants Barcelona.

The Spaniard has become an increasingly important part of Pep Guardiola's side this season, making eight Premier League appearances this term - recently starting in his side's devastating 4-0 victory over recently crowned champions Liverpool.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut back in December 2018, starting an EFL Cup tie against Leicester City, but it has been this term which has seen him really make the breakthrough into the first-team.

With the gifted young defender drawing praise for his recent performances, it is no surprise to see that the club are keen to secure his services in the long run.

But according to Sport, La Blaugrana are interested in bringing García back to Camp Nou this summer - with the fact that his contract only has a year left to run a potentially enticing prospect for Barça.

The central defender has a clear connection to Quique Setién's side as he is a product of the famed La Masia academy and he could add some much needed youthful quality to an ageing squad.

That being said, reports in England suggest - as per The Sun - that García is set to snub the interest of his former club and commit to a five-year deal to remain at the Etihad. This contract offer would reportedly triple the youngster's wages, taking him from £12,000-a-week to over £40,000-a-week.

García - and his agent Carles Puyol - recently held talks with City, and the legendary Barcelona defender is said to have indicated to his client that turning down the advances of his former club would be his best option.

The youngster has already turned his back on the club once, opting to join up with Pep Guardiola in 2017 rather than biding his time in sunny Spain.
