David Silva Names 4 Man Utd Players in List of Toughest Man City Opponents

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has named four former Manchester United players as part of his list when asked about the toughest opponents he has come up against.

The experienced Spaniard also revealed that Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany were among the most talented teammates he has played alongside.

The 34-year-old joined Man City in the summer of 2010, and has helped his side to win four Premier League crowns. Regarded as one of the very best players to grace the English game, Silva will depart the Etihad this summer when his current contract is due to expire - although this may not necessarily be at the end of June as a result of coronavirus.

During his near ten-year spell in England with City, Silva has come up against a number of world class players, while he has also played alongside some greats. Speaking to CityTV, the Spaniard has now listed the most talented teammates he has played alongside.

He said: "Naming one would be unfair. In my team, Kun [Aguero] has scored a lot of goals and very important ones, Yaya [Toure]'s role was fundamental when he was at his peak, Vinnie [Kompany] because the hierarchy he had on the team and on the defence, Joe Hart too.

"When I first arrived, Joe, Gareth Barry, James Milner, Adam Johnson. They were great players, but they also made things easier for me, they really helped me to settle."

Elsewhere, Silva went on to name his toughest opponents he has come up against, and this included former Man Utd players Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary and Phil Neville.

He continued: "I can name a lot of rivals too. [Frank] Lampard, who was my teammate too, his stats were amazing and he was a great man too. There are a lot of Spanish players too like Fernando Torres, Cesc [Fabregas], who has also done great things in the Premier League. Nowadays, it's Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta.

"Players that are part of the competition like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, the Neville brothers. They are part of a big time at United and it was always tough when we faced them. They were all fantastic players and very passionate for their club and the national team too."

While Silva is due to leave City once his contract expires, it is not yet clear where he will end up. ESPN report that a return to Valencia is a possibility, but a potential deal is being complicated by the current coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, the report adds that due to the current situation, Silva is going to have to decide whether to leave the club on 30 June or sign a new short-term extension.
