David Alaba Considered as Exchange Option as Part of Leroy Sané's Proposed Transfer to Bayern Munich

Exclusive - Manchester City are considering a move for Bayern Munich left back David Alaba as part of their deal with the Bundesliga champions for Leroy Sané.

The Germany international is expected to move to the Allianz Arena ahead of the 2020/21 season and although an agreement still hasn't been reached between both clubs, Bayern Munich have already convinced Sané over the transfer.

Manchester City are currently sitting on a £100m asking price, but Bayern Munich are confident that will be much reduced due to the coronavirus outbreak - as well as the fact Sané is entering the last year of his contract at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola's side won't be able to recoup as much money as they'd hoped due to the current climate, but City might look to seize this opportunity to maximise what they get out of Sané's move back to Germany.

90min understands City are currently considering Bayern Munich's Alaba as a potential target, with the intention being that the Austrian replaces Benjamin Mendy in defence next season.

Alaba isn't a part of negotiations with Bayern Munich yet, but 90min has learned both parties have considered using Alaba as a way of speeding up negotiations for Sané.

Bayern would include Alaba in the transfer if it meant Sané's fee would be reduced to as little as £10m, while Manchester City are working out if including the 27-year-old would be a cheaper alternative to signing Leicester City's Ben Chilwell or Everton's Lucas Digne.

Alaba has made more appearances under Guardiola than any other manager in his career, but it's unclear if the Austrian is interested in a reunion in the Premier League.

He could be surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich due to Alphonso Davies emergence this season, but Alaba's future will heavily rest on what assurances the Canadian teenager was given as part of his new contract.

Davies was signed from Vancouver Whitecaps as an attacking winger, only moving into defence this season after Niklas Süle and Lucas Hernandez picked up long-term injuries. Once Bayern Munich's two central defenders return, it's expected Alaba will return to his natural position at left back.

Manchester City aren't the only club who a looking to capitalise on Alaba's uncertain future, however, as the Austria international is also being closely monitored by Barcelona, Inter and Chelsea.
