Champions League, Then Infinity And Beyond

Last updated : 05 May 2010 By Paddy Power

The Old Order of the “Big Four” is no more with the demise of Liverpool and there are two new contenders vying for a place at the top table. Spurs have been consistent all season and would be getting the football purists support tonight, Man City on the other hand will always be tarnished with the “bought success” tag and if they make it into The Champions League then every player in the world would be a potential target.

Man City have to win and then win again at West Ham in the last game of the season, they are Even money to get the three points and set up a thrilling final day. They’ll need to play like they did against Aston Villa and Chelsea and not how they did against United and Arsenal, if they do attack Spurs then there should be only one winner on the balance of attacking talent.  There isn’t much in the 4th place market Spurs are 8/11 while City are Even money chances to grab the last Champions League spot.

Man City saw off Aston Villa’s challenge for a Champions League spot in an emphatic fashion, the two goals in quick succession sucked the life out of Villa. If they can blitz Spurs in the same way then it could be a big score for City, another 3-1 home win is 13/1 and a 3-0 is 17/1. Spurs could come looking for a draw but with all the attacking options City have it won’t be through the lack of trying if they can’t break down the Spurs door.

Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor seem to each bag a goal every weekend, they are the perfect big man small man forward partnership. With their current form it’s no surprise they are the front runners in the scoring markets; Tevez is 4/1 favourite for the opening goal and Adebayor is right behind as a 9/2 chance. They can also be backed at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively to score 2 or more goals in the match. Of the top five teams Spurs have scored the fewest goals in the road so should Tevez and Adebayor score two goals it will more than likely mean City win.
