Benjamin Mendy Family Member Tests Negative for Coronavirus After Defender Self-Isolates

Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy has revealed that an unnamed member of his family has been given the all-clear over coronavirus fears, after a scare earlier in the week.

On Friday 13 March, the news broke that one of City’s players had been quarantined over fears that someone close to them had contracted COVID-19. That player turned out to be Mendy, with paramedics reportedly treating a family member for a respiratory illness at the left back's home in Cheshire.

The player went into self-isolation as a precaution while City cancelled training on Friday morning. There has been no word on when they will return to the training ground to resume activities.

Mendy, however, revealed on Saturday via Instagram that ‘the results were negative for those around me’.

The France international also used his post went on to explain how vital it is that people listen to the advice they’re being given and take the appropriate action.

He wrote: “It is important that everyone takes their responsibilities in this delicate period, to protect you but above all protect the weakest in the face of the epidemic.”

Mendy continued on to give helpful advice for those searching for information on COVID-19. He linked the World Health Organization [WHO] website’s information page for coronavirus, as well as tagging the organisation’s Instagram account.

“I therefore invite you to follow the instructions of the WHO [World Health Organization] in order to stop the spread of the virus as quickly as possible and to get back to normal,” he said.

“Take care of yourself and your beloved ones.”
