Bayern Munich Still Aiming to Land Long-Term Target Leroy Sané in Cut-Price Deal

Bayern Munich are retaining an interest in Leroy Sané with the hope they can land him on the cheap from Manchester City. Still.

Were it not for a horrific knee injury during the 2019/20 Premier League season curtain-raiser, this is a discussion we'd likely not be having at all. Sané ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in August last year, with Die Roten having been pushing through with a late move for the forward ahead of the transfer deadline.

As 90min revealed as far back as last July, Sané was open to the idea of returning back to the Bundesliga with Bayern extremely keen on a move, and even as recently as January, 90min added that the forward was 'anxious' to agree on a move to Bavaria as soon as possible.

While Sané is yet to kick a ball with the senior City squad since his lengthy layoff, the rumours have not dissipated as an apparent tug-of-war takes place to either lure him to Germany or extend his stay in Manchester - which, at present, is to come to an end in the summer of 2021.

Due to the length of his contract left, and that he hasn't played for so long, The Sun claims Bayern will try to nab Sane on a cut-price deal somewhere in the region of £61m when the summer transfer window opens.

Pep Guardiola has maintained that he'd like to keep hold of the 24 year old, saying in January that he hadn't outright rejected a contract extension and one remains on the table.

However, The Sun adds that if City do decide to sell then they will likely demand 'considerably more' than what Bayern believe they can sign him for.

So in other words, very little – if anything – has changed. Had City of lowered their asking fee to the aforementioned price then perhaps there would be scope for discussion, but they haven't, so it's as you were.

Granted, the Premier League champions can't command the £140m they had previously demanded, but they still rate the forward highly and by simply stating that Bayern think they can sign him for less, but then two lines later stating they can't, precious little is added to the table.
