Bayern Munich Prepared to Offer Leroy Sane Legendary No.10 Shirt at Allianz Arena

Ahhhh, the old Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich transfer story.

A story that keeps popping up in the headlines every few days, with little nuggets of new information offering fresh hope to the Bavarian giants that a Bundesliga return is indeed on the horizon.

To date, we've learned that Sane is more than up for a return to his homeland, while City are reluctant to sell the German international. They may, however, be forced to reconsider their stance, given that his current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out in the summer of 2021.

In terms of numbers, Bayern are willing to pay in the region of £50m - but they are hopeful that market valuations may have fluctuated somewhat because of the coronavirus' impact on football finances.

So what's new?

Well, not much in truth, but it's an update from Bild (via MailOnline Sport) for you sentimental folk - like me - who enjoy history, records and nostalgia.

The German publication say that Bayern will offer Sane the coveted number ten shirt, which has been worn by some of the greatest players to have ever played for the club. On-loan Philippe Coutinho is currently in possession of the number, but he's unlikely to be staying at the club beyond the end of the season.

Arjen Robben, Uli Hoeneß and Lothar Matthaus are just three of the iconic names who have previously donned the number ten jersey, with the former of the three enjoying tremendous success with Bayern over the past decade.

Sane currently wears the number 19 shirt, which he also wore at previous club Schalke 04. There's no indication that the German has any affinity towards the number, but his desire and appetite to join the Bundesliga champions is likely to be whetted by the offering of such a prestigious jersey.

As for how things play out this summer, control of the situation is very much in City's hands. They have the financial firepower to buy just about any player in the world, so bringing in a replacement for Sane is feasible - providing the club can find a player capable of rising to Pep Guardiola's high standards.

Manchester City v Chelsea - Premier League

One thing that's guaranteed is that talk of a move to Liverpool is exactly that - talk. The Reds are said to have held an interest in signing Sane, and were even hopeful of persuading him to run down his contract in order to move to Anfield for free.

But City won't allow that, Sane doesn't want the move anyway and all eyes remain on Bayern.
