When speaking on his website about playing for France again, he said: "Everything is possible. Why not? The door is not shut, but it's not going to happen just now."
Anelka was omitted from the French World Cup squad last year and refused to play for manager, Jacques Santini, after he was called up only as standby for a friendly 12 months ago.
"I have only spoken to him [Santitni] for five minutes since he became coach, and since I left, never," Anelka said. "I don't know him at all, and I don't think he knows me, either."
But the Frenchman has found that the attitude of his club manager has helped the 'Incredible Sulk' to enjoy his football.
"In all the clubs where I have been it is rather rare to joke with a coach," he said. "At City, it's the case because Keegan likes a chuckle. That's not to say he does not do things seriously, but it allows us a more relaxed, convivial atmosphere."
As for returning to a French club, Anelka declared: "No, it's impossible. When I returned the last time, I saw the reception that was given to me.
"My experience with PSG does not justify me returning at all. It was hard to live there especially as I had played all my childhood in France and that was in front of my public," added Anelka, who first left PSG as a teenager to join Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.
"I know the French crowd and it's not easy to feel supported. That's the big difference with English crowds, they cheer you whatever happens."
Just another of the reasons why Anelka is staying put to spearhead our UEFA Cup campaign and our bid for the Champions League. This he knows is the best way of securing an international recall, if he decides to bury the hatchet and make himself available for France once more.
