Fergie & Keane - Grumpy Old Men

Last updated : 12 September 2005 By Ben Collins
I have to say I was surprised to see us get a draw - we usually struggle against teams below us in the table!! - but not as surprised as Fergie though.

"It was frustrating. It was similar to last season - they parked themselves at the edge of the box and just hoped for scraps. I thought getting the goal on half-time would open up the game for us, but they just sat and defended in the second-half," he said on the United website.

The delightful old chap added that Utd 'dominated' and suggested City didn't even deserve a draw. He also went on to say that a second City goal would have been “ridiculous”, to which City boss Stuart Pearce responded: “I like ridiculous results.”

I'd ask Fergie what game he was watching but it's the same old story, he's just a grumpy old manager. Any reasonable Utd fan (if you can find one) would accept that we we were well worth the draw, perhaps even the win.

No, we didn't create much but the only save James had to make was just before the United goal.

The reason it was frustrating for Fergie is because Psycho won the tactics game. Last season it was a backs-to-the-wall effort and we did get a bit lucky to get a goalless draw.

On Saturday, there was no luck involved though. Pearce had City defending brilliantly and we were very rarely 'under the cosh', if at all. Plus, we had a lot more of the ball, attacked more often, and had we used the ball better, we could have fashioned a winning opportunity much earlier than Cole's last-gasp effort.

Fergie picked a weakened team and Psycho's substitutions helped City pounce as they tired, while when Fergie finally brought Keane & Giggs on it was too late.

Had Cole grabbed a winner, which was only kept out by a superb save from Van der Sar, it might have been harsh on United but it would have been testament to the effectiveness of Psycho's game plan.

No wonder you were grumpy, Fergie. You were out-thought by a relative novice!

- Apologies to Steve Bartram at the United website, there may be a reasonable Utd fan after all. He kindly gave us a chance to air our views in the build-up...

It appears some things are clear no matter who you support. He's since said, "surely Danny Mills is breaching the Trade Descriptions Act if he calls himself a footballer!"

We all agree, mate!!
